Who's Behind It All?
Hello Arachnids!
I’m Saburn, the artist and creator of Home of Arachne! I’m from rural northern Ontario where I live with my wife and our little cat family.
I’m a mixed media artist, focused predominately on resin, and a LHP practitioner. Aka I’m an artsy witch! I’ve had a long history with both art and witchcraft but only recently have allowed both these things to be the main focus in my life and I’d like to tell you all a little about it.
Art for me started in the written form. I’ve always been known as a storyteller, whether it be through short stories or poetry. My interest in the arts has spanned across multiple mediums. I spent my high school years as part of our after school drama club, performing many times on stage. I’ve also always loved dancing and music, though I don’t have talent in either of those, I can still appreciate and admire the art. I enjoyed drawing and doodling through my youth and even now, as I tend to sketch ideas for some of my recent art pieces.
Resin was a whim. I didn’t intend on being a resin artist but I bought a few small bottles, a cheap set of moulds as a tester and immediately fell in love. It took a lot of personal convincing to invest in my interest but I’m glad that I did! Since that initial trial, I have spent countless hours working on perfecting my craft. Each time I work at my station, I learn something new about this medium and it’s a treat every time. I knew I was in love with this art style when it was the first thing I wanted to do when I woke up, and the last thing I wanted to do before bed.
It's no joke when people say pursuing art is scary, it was definitely scary to decide I wanted to do my art full time, but it has been so emotionally and mentally rewarding. I always told myself I couldn’t pursue art because of xyz reasons and it has been empowering to pursue what I love.
Mixing art and witchcraft has also been very exciting. I remember being a teenager in my parent’s bathroom when I did my first spell, but I’ve been in love with the idea of magic for as long as I can remember.
Art in itself is kind of magical so to add magic to some of my pieces has been pretty cool. Practitioners are always learning and as I become more seasoned in my craft I hope to offer more things of the magical side of my art journey.
I can't wait to show what more I have to offer, I hope you'll stay tuned!
