We Bought a House!

🎉 We bought a house! 🎉

Let me tell you the story of our sudden displacement to this very exciting news!
Some of you may know that back in (2018) the apartment my wife and I were living in became infested with black mold and with the landlords unwilling to do anything we were forced to quickly move out. We lost so much due to the mold and moisture, which popped up in our BEDROOM! Our dressers were warped and ruined, a very expensive winter coat was un-saveable, but most importantly, we lost a roof over our heads.

Thankfully, my wife's grandparents were extremely kind to let us move into the upstairs building of their home while we waited out the winter to find a new place. This place wasn't finished yet as my wife's grandpa, who is such a hard working man, had been slowly fixing it up in between constant work. When we moved in, he fixed the shower which was not active at the time and installed a sink and counter so we can function. Since we moved up here, there was no way for him properly finish the renos and we've done our best to minimize and make due! We've learned how to time our cooking on 1 induction burner and only running 1 appliance at a time and make a cozy life out of our situation, but it did take a toll. One of the things were both excited to have again is a stove! Although I joke that we may not remember how to cook more than one thing at a time!

I want to reiterate here that renos could not be continued while we are occupying the space and that my wife's grandparents work A LOT and in an neibouring town at that. Despite the minimalized lifestyle bringing certain stressors, we will never not be whole heartedly grateful for being given a roof over our heads in a desperate time! They have done a great deal for us.
We only intended to stay over the winter and move out again by spring, unfortunately, with market being what it is, apartments only skyrocketed in our small town and housing becoming the same, we've been stuck in a sort of limbo, never fully unpacked but unable to move on from our temporary setup. We even considered moving away instead but when the pandemic hit, it became virtually impossible to move anywhere let alone find a local place, but we kept trying and applying and looking.

The house, one that was finally in our price range, popped up and on a whim we had a look. Everything moved so incredibly fast after that. Without a mortgage we put in an offer and then crossed our fingers while setting up an appointment at the bank. This time however, my parents offered for my dad to be a co-signer. This was something I never wanted to ask. Even though I am super close with my parents, this is a huge ask and a very tight spot for the co-signer to be in. Without his co-sign, despite how much we work, we never would have gotten the mortgage for our little home.

So our offer was accept, mortgage obtained and papers signed! We are now 78 days from closing with a whole whack of things to complete before move in and we couldn't be more excited!

The house itself is old, and needs some work but we have wonderful amazing people in our lives helping us along the way!

We will forever be truly grateful for my wife's grandparents who took us in when we were forced to leave our mold ridden apartment. What was only meant to be 1 winter turned into 5 years.

We are also so grateful for my parents who helped us get the mortgage so we can finally have our own space again!

There will be some updates coming to Home of Arachne, which will be announced on socials, so keep an eye out for those!

This is an exciting new journey for us and I can't wait to share it with you all!
