Grumpy Is As Grumpy Does: This Artist’s Second Life

Hello Arachnids!

The life of an artist is not always prosperous, so sometimes we need to work other jobs to pay for our real passions. Our second lives are what get us through the bills, but I’ve been fortunate enough to have a creative element in my second life as well.

I’m a partner in a seasonal chipstand!

When I was 20, my mom and I decided to become business partners. I’ve been in the food industry for over a decade now; I grew up around restaurants. When Grumpy’s Chipstand came on the market, my mom asked me to join her in this new endeavor and I said yes!

Learning how to run a business in my early twenties has been a really rewarding experience. My mom and I are very hands on, working mostly ourselves with a few employees when we can. I mainly do the cooking during our summer season, but I’ve been known to run the window here and there.

I love cooking. I feel very passionate about making good food, and I’d like to think that after many years, I’m pretty good at it, as far as chipstands go. One of the reasons I love cooking so much is how creative you get to be with it. It feels like home in that sense. Working on new dishes, perfecting the ones you know, designing the menu, any chance to add a hint of artistry, these are all elements of creativity that I have the privilege of including in my second life.

This is all to say that chipstand season is here! It has been a long winter and I’m excited to jump back into the kitchen, but this also means that my content is going to be slowing down. I’ll be putting out one blog post a month instead of two until October. My online content and art pieces will also be slowing down as I learn to balance my new workload. I won’t have any full collections until the fall, but I do plan on making a few pieces here and there during the summer so keep and eye out for those drops! I also have a few ambitious mini collections planned with some new products, so I won’t be completely going away.

I also want to take this time to thank everyone who’s been on this journey with me so far. It’s been a joy being able to do what I love and seeing my business grow and reach little milestones has been so unbelievably fulfilling. I was really nervous going into this. I was scared to take a chance on my passion for art and the occult, but I’m so glad I did. I hope to fully return in the fall with bigger goals, cooler collections and exciting announcements!
