3 Years In and Changes Coming To Home of Arachne
Today I'm celebrating 3 years of Home of Arachne and now that we've settled into our new home and I can return my focus to art, it's time to announce some changes!
After a lot of thought and long contemplation, I've decided to pull back from Resin art. Although I won't be moving away entirely from this medium, I will heavily be reducing the amount of resin pieces I create, opting to use it more as collaboration with other mediums instead.
I've come to this decision for a few reasons.
1. I'm just not as inspired with this medium as when I started. There is little room for creative expression pouring into the same mold over and over. Demoldings are some of my most popular content but that isn't enough for me to keep making piece after piece.
2. It just doesn't sell. The art scene in general is really struggling at the moment and I'm left with a lot of large resin art pieces that take up a lot of space. It just isn't practical to keep producing pieces that I can't manage to sell.
3. It's expensive! Resin itself is very expensive and I won't be able to afford to maintain the craft on top of being a first time homeowner, especially if they're not selling. I take a huge financial hit when I have to mark down art pieces in order to sell them, when I know it costs a lot just to make.
4. The environment. Resin is controversial in the art world. Essentially, it's plastic, which as we know, doesn't help our current environmental crisis. All art forms create waste or environmental strain to some extent or another but resin has been deeply criticized for its impact, especially when it's being mass produced. I myself have done as much as possible to minimize the amount of waste created through my resin art but with an overstock of art it just doesn't seem reasonable to keep adding to the pile.
Going forward I plan on expanding on different mediums I work with, as well as trying my hand at some new ones in the future.
I want to do a lot more painting! I have a ton of really cool ideas that have been on the back burner and are ready to come into the spotlight!
Dragon Hoard Boxes aren't going anywhere! I really want to focus on making the Fantasy Collection bigger and better! I absolutely love everything about this collection and really want to eventually make this the forefront of my little art business!
Arachne Corner? I recently got back into crocheting as a way of reconnecting with my late grandmother. I really want to incorporate this into my shop with having a dedicated corner for this medium! Honestly, it'll be the closest I get to fulling the name of Arachne since I don't think I'll be learning to weave any time soon!
Digital Art and Home of Arachne? If you follow me on my socials, you know I recently got into digital art. I have no definite plans yet on how this will mesh into Home of Arachne but I am hoping to use this medium to add to existing projects, like the Fantasy Collection!
There is a lot more I want to create with and try out, but without any definitive plans, I'll leave those ideas in the shadows for now. I'll be taking it one step at a time as I grow closer and closer to my own artistic niche!
If you want to see how Home of Arachne grows and changes, hope on over to my socials and give me a follow! I'm really excited to make these changes and go in whatever direction the inspiration leads me. I'm so grateful for all the support I've received since starting my little business and hope for continued support as I move forward!
Very interesting Saburn. I look forward to seeing what you create.
